Oddworld Wiki

Hi! Welcome to the Oddworld Fandom Wiki!

Recently OWI has began to publish posts on their Twitter citing articles from this site, along with content that heavily implies that the wiki is in some way official or sanctioned.

We'd like to dispel this rumor now: The Fandom Wiki is 100% community run and has in fact been long plagued by information of dubious validity, despite the valiant efforts of its editors (whose job we really appreciate, keep up the good fight!). For this reason, we'd like to ask our readers to take everything here with a great chunk of salt, especially when it comes to content without valid citations.

If you wish to fight against misinformation, you're encouraged to contribute high-quality content to the wiki—that is content that's propped up by a trusted source (examples include: Oddworld.com, Magog on the March, or The Oddworld Library) and contain no headcanons, theorizing, or any further content not directly coming from Oddworld Inhabitants.

Thank you for your attention and understanding! Happy reading and editing!

Bats are often found in dark and quiet places throughout Oddworld, including both Scrabania, Paramonia and the Stockyards. Although they appear mostly harmless, they are vicious carnivores that prey on any creature that hangs from their nesting ledge or jumps into their nesting area.

Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee[]

Bats are first seen in Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee as a natural enemy, restricting access to certain ledges or forcing Abe to move fast or be killed by the bats. Bats can be killed by throwing rocks at them.

Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty[]

Bats make a return in Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty in a largely similar role. Bats are less dangerous in New 'n' Tasty, taking multiple hits (even on the hard difficulty level) to kill Abe. Bats can be killed by throwing rocks or bottle caps at them.

Oddworld: Soulstorm[]

A variant of the bat appears in Oddworld: Soulstorm called Meetlebats. These bats move in similar way to the familiar bat, but their attacks are far less effective. They can be killed from a direct hit with a rock. Their venom is known for being a temporary cure for ailments, and when mixed with other ingredients can create a cure to Soulstorm Brew sickness.

Trivia[]

  • Boombats were originally supposed to replace bats in New 'n' Tasty, but the idea was dropped during development.
  • Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty contains an achievement for killing a bat with a rock, called Rockin' Mudokon.
