Oddworld Wiki

Hi! Welcome to the Oddworld Fandom Wiki!

Recently OWI has began to publish posts on their Twitter citing articles from this site, along with content that heavily implies that the wiki is in some way official or sanctioned.

We'd like to dispel this rumor now: The Fandom Wiki is 100% community run and has in fact been long plagued by information of dubious validity, despite the valiant efforts of its editors (whose job we really appreciate, keep up the good fight!). For this reason, we'd like to ask our readers to take everything here with a great chunk of salt, especially when it comes to content without valid citations.

If you wish to fight against misinformation, you're encouraged to contribute high-quality content to the wiki—that is content that's propped up by a trusted source (examples include: Oddworld.com, Magog on the March, or The Oddworld Library) and contain no headcanons, theorizing, or any further content not directly coming from Oddworld Inhabitants.

Thank you for your attention and understanding! Happy reading and editing!

Boombats are small, fuzzy creatures that the Stranger uses as live ammo for his crossbow. When launched they will stick to enemies and eventually explode, causing heavy damage. They are first encountered in Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath on the way back through the mines after Stranger's battle with The Looten Duke at the Water Facility.

Stranger's Wrath[]

Boombats can be seen as the natural version of a missile. Their explosions can catch a large group of enemies, and they latch onto whatever enemy they find themselves shot onto. They act as a great way to knock out bosses, as they can significantly deteriorate their stamina bar. Use them in conjunction with Thudslugs to knock them right out and get the bigger alive bounty. They later turn into Boombat Seekers, which fires three homing Boombats.

Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty[]

During the development of Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty a contest was launched by Oddworld Inhabitants to name various trophies in the game. One of the trophy descriptions read "Kill a Boombat with a rock.", indicating that Boombats were supposed to appear in the game in one form or another, possibly as a Native version of grenades, or as a native version of mines.[1] Later during the game's development the idea for Boombats was dropped entirely and regular bats now appear in the final game. The corresponding achievement, Rockin' Mudokon, now reads "Kill a bat with a rock.".[2]
