Oddworld Wiki

Hi! Welcome to the Oddworld Fandom Wiki!

Recently OWI has began to publish posts on their Twitter citing articles from this site, along with content that heavily implies that the wiki is in some way official or sanctioned.

We'd like to dispel this rumor now: The Fandom Wiki is 100% community run and has in fact been long plagued by information of dubious validity, despite the valiant efforts of its editors (whose job we really appreciate, keep up the good fight!). For this reason, we'd like to ask our readers to take everything here with a great chunk of salt, especially when it comes to content without valid citations.

If you wish to fight against misinformation, you're encouraged to contribute high-quality content to the wiki—that is content that's propped up by a trusted source (examples include: Oddworld.com, Magog on the March, or The Oddworld Library) and contain no headcanons, theorizing, or any further content not directly coming from Oddworld Inhabitants.

Thank you for your attention and understanding! Happy reading and editing!

Ghosttraps

SoulStorm Mining Co. information regarding Ghost Traps

Ghost Traps (also known as Spirit Locks) are industrial devices used by Glukkons to imprison the spirits of deceased Mudokons. Ghost traps were intended to prevent these spirits from opening the doors of Mudokon tombs, but they could be freed by breaking the traps with blunt force.

Background

The administration of SoulStorm Mining Co., operating within Necrum Mines, employed ghost traps in order to limit the supernatural activities of Mudokon spirits, and prevent them from opening access to restricted Mudokon tombs. These traps were placed in the Mudomo and Mudanchee Vaults, and each contained up to four spirits.

For unknown reasons, ghost traps were also used in the Slig Barracks.

Information on ghost traps and tomb doors

Information points regarding the function and use of ghost traps are found throughout Necrum.

  • "Rescue ringed spirits to get invisibility power. Upon receiving power, use your invisible time wisely... Chant to disappear... but nothin' lasts forever..."
  • "Paramites can't eat what they can't see! Invisibility is your friend. Free ringed spirits, then chant to become invisible"
  • "Slap all Ghost Traps to release Spirit Locks and open Tomb Doors."
  • "To release the tortured Mudokon spirit, stand next to a Ghost Trap and slap it. The grateful spirits will unlock Spirit Locks and gradually open locked Tomb Doors."

Abe's Exoddus

After the destruction of Necrum Mines, Abe will force the locks of every important door that is in his way. We clearly see that Abe has two main purposes: 1. The main one in which he must free the important spirits of mudokons - by completing Mudomo Vaults and Mudanchee Vaults; 2. In his way he must free the minor spirits in order to pass from an area to another.
