Oddworld Wiki

Hi! Welcome to the Oddworld Fandom Wiki!

Recently OWI has began to publish posts on their Twitter citing articles from this site, along with content that heavily implies that the wiki is in some way official or sanctioned.

We'd like to dispel this rumor now: The Fandom Wiki is 100% community run and has in fact been long plagued by information of dubious validity, despite the valiant efforts of its editors (whose job we really appreciate, keep up the good fight!). For this reason, we'd like to ask our readers to take everything here with a great chunk of salt, especially when it comes to content without valid citations.

If you wish to fight against misinformation, you're encouraged to contribute high-quality content to the wiki—that is content that's propped up by a trusted source (examples include: Oddworld.com, Magog on the March, or The Oddworld Library) and contain no headcanons, theorizing, or any further content not directly coming from Oddworld Inhabitants.

Thank you for your attention and understanding! Happy reading and editing!

TearExtractors

Rows of active Tear X-tractors in the SoulStorm Brewery.

A Tear X-tractor is a device designed to repeatedly shock a Mudokon until they begin crying. The tears are then collected and used as a secret ingredient by the Glukkons to make SoulStorm Brew. While the X-tractors' shocks are not deadly under normal conditions, the device can be overloaded to cause fatal electrocution as seen in Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus' bad ending.

X1

Tear X-tractor as seen in Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus.

Overview[]

Abe's Exoddus[]

Tear extractors can be found all throughout Soulstorm Brewery, and Abe does not encounter full batteries of them. When a Tear X-Tractor holds a Mudokon captive, electricty will occasionally lash out at the eyes in order to produced tears. This lash will turn the whole screen blue for asplit seconds. Many mechanism can be used to free captive Mudokons, from levers to wheels to Glukkon voice recorders. Once free however, the Mudokons will remain unresponsive, similar to the effects of brew overdose. Abe must acquire a healing ring from an infiltrating shaman to cure them, after which they will fart and resume normal Mudokon behaviour.

Soulstorm[]

Brewery X Traktors Angle 2

A Tear X-tractor triplet

In this version of Soulstorm Brewery, Tear-Extractors are found in groups of threes, being maintained by a group of three Mudokons spinning wheels. These workers can be distracter from their work, where Abe can press a button to deactivate the X-Tractors, activate mechanical wells and spit the tortured Mudokons into the foreground. Abe will often have to contend with Slig security after this though. While rescued Mudokons will comment on their relief on being freed, there is no sickness as a result of the process.

Trivia[]

  • In Soulstorm, the Mudokons rescued from the X-Tractors are the only Mudokons who follow Abe that wear the signature loincloths.
