How about you go look at it yourself? Also why are you asking this stuff on Edward's wall? You can discuss this stuff on the ARG talk page or, better yet, introduce yourself in the ARG thread of the Oddworld Forums.
Feefeetrix1981 here, I couldn't remember my password. I'm saying this because I have something important to tell you that may be connected to the ARG. I brightened up Abe's face to the highest setting, added a little contrast and I looked closer in to one of Abe's eyes. I could see the sihouettes of people going into a shack, and I think they are the 300 Mudokons being lured into Necrum Mines. Would this be a clue?
well, I have the full picture of Abe's face, but I don't think I can save a zoomed copy of it. If you have a copy of the picture, and if you have photoshop or something like that, maybe you can look for yourself? In the meantime, I'll try and save a screenshot. But I know what I saw. Plus, the ARG is finished. The Spirit of 1029 needs you. I need you to go to the Soulstorm page and check the communication box. In case you don't know what I'm talking about, I need you to click on a link on the page that says "1029.io". They need you.
There seem to be some permission issues on the wiki where users don't have permission to upload images. I don't have permission to check the permissions (lol) so could you look into this? I've got a number of eager new editors who are looking to contribute but this is making it somewhat difficult.
I just tried uploading an image and it worked fine. And the Photo section says someone uploaded an image as recently as yesterday so I'm not entirely sure what could be wrong. Maybe it's just a maintenance thing going on but, I'll try to keep looking into it.
I think it's more an issue that newly registered users (which is the 'registered' usergroup) apparently doesn't have permission to upload pictures. Could you check if the default usergroup has the right permissions?
I know that new registered users can't upload for the first 3-4 days. As for the regular users, there should be any problem. It might just be an internal issue that's being looked into. It's happened once or twice in that past but, that was years ago.
I'm looking for the rights section that umbrellas all normal users but, I can't find it. I doubt anyone changed anything to cause this issue with user rights.
We'll just see if this persists over the course of the next couple of days. Also, you're a bit more active than I am so I'll try to add you to bureaucrat status. It's the admin of admins (what I am).
When you get a chance, could you clean up the list of people with admin rights? Aside from the two of us, everyone on that list hasn't been here for years. One account name has even been deleted. I'd like to prevent unneeded priviledges as much as possible.
How would you feel about changing the look of the Wiki a little? I feel the background image in combination with the transparent background can be fairly distracting at times. A solid background would make for better reading I think and the background image can be something more customized. If you're up for changing the looks, would you want to keep the black/green colorscheme we have going on now or something else entirely? I was looking through the Wikia themes and thought the 'Police' theme had a nice color scheme to start working with.
I kind of like theme how it is. I never really liked the Police theme. I could change the background to make it less distracting. I think I still have some old Oddworld backgrounds that should fix the problem.
I still think the theme really needs to be redone to improve the overall look of the wiki. I've done some tinkering with colors and such and made a mockup of a new style and a new fairly neutral but deeper background. Removed the transparency and changed the colors to be a little easier on the eyes. Links are more easily identified and readability in general is improved.
I do still think the transparency needs to go at the very least, it really doesn't help readability and that's what the ultimate goal of a wiki is, no? Lots of reading :). Let me know what you think. Of course the colors are up for debate but I think this combination strikes a pretty nice balance.
All done. The background image is somewhat of an issue, since the upload limit is only 300kb which is really really tiny for a background this detailed. I had to get creative with lowering the resolution and cutting parts of it away. I'll ask Wikia if we can have a larger image. Until then this will have to do.
I have the background used on the actual website and it actual works pretty well. I kind of liked the purple I picked out. It was like the original Oddworld website type of purple. Maybe we can try a black background for text too. The brown-ish one is hard to look at.
Purple on black really isn't a very good combination. Makes it look very outdated (there's a reason Oddworld.com doesn't use that color scheme anymore). I think the goldish/brownish look is pretty good. It looks fresh and clean and easy on the eyes. Not sure why you think it's hard to look at?
Do you mean the large brown boxes on talk pages and such? Because then yeah I would agree those need to be a different color, but they seem to be influenced by the button color =/ Maybe there's a CSS trick to work around that, I'd have to look into that. The top menu bar and edit buttons and such looked pretty good in gold/brown if you ask me.
As for the background, I think it's good for now. It's not really noticeable (at least on my screen) unless you look at the top or bottom. I'll as Wikia to put the original larger file there and we'll see how they respond.
Yeah the button color was what was bothering me. I guess we could try the gold but, I'll try to adjust it so that it doesn't pop out too much. As for the background on my end, there are two large vertical black bars on both sides of the center but, that's probably because I wider monitor. I think I made a template for backgrounds with borders to show how much image is needed on both sides to keep the black center from showing. I'll try to find it (hopefully it wasn't lost when my hard drive got corrupted back in April).
I think I found what you meant on the community wikia, some sort of template right? I've asked around and someone was nice enough to make an alternative compressed version of our background which I've just uploaded. Does that solve some of the issues you were having?
Sadly I haven't gotten an official response yet, just being able to use the full image would solve the entire problem.
Okay, well I've uploaded a compressed version of the full image now. It actually doesn't look as bad as I expected it would, so I guess that works for now. If we ever get a chance to use a higher quality file in the future we'll certainly do that, though.
I've been contemplating turning the 'classic' wiki talk pages back on instead of the current commenting system. My experience with other Wiki's taught me that those make discussions (such as this one) more organized. These commenting chains can quickly get a bit lengthy, especially if there's more discussions on the same page. There's also a forum module that I'd like to enable to allow for more casual discussion in general.
That's also true. Part of me doesn't want to go back to signing posts again. Lot's of people for to do that. You don't get notifications to replies using the old talk style. I don't remember there being notifications in the activity feed for Talk posts either.
I'm pretty reluctant to reverting back to the old style. How active the Comment section gets really depends on where you're looking but, here, the comments have been pretty active with relevant topics in comparison to bigger wikis like MLP, FNAF, etc.
If you don't have time to manage this wiki please make me part of the admin team so I can deal with it for you. This guy is spamming his garbage all over the place and there's currently no-one to clean it.
