Oddworld Wiki

Hi! Welcome to the Oddworld Fandom Wiki!

Recently OWI has began to publish posts on their Twitter citing articles from this site, along with content that heavily implies that the wiki is in some way official or sanctioned.

We'd like to dispel this rumor now: The Fandom Wiki is 100% community run and has in fact been long plagued by information of dubious validity, despite the valiant efforts of its editors (whose job we really appreciate, keep up the good fight!). For this reason, we'd like to ask our readers to take everything here with a great chunk of salt, especially when it comes to content without valid citations.

If you wish to fight against misinformation, you're encouraged to contribute high-quality content to the wiki—that is content that's propped up by a trusted source (examples include: Oddworld.com, Magog on the March, or The Oddworld Library) and contain no headcanons, theorizing, or any further content not directly coming from Oddworld Inhabitants.

Thank you for your attention and understanding! Happy reading and editing!

This page is about the location. For the level in Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty, see Monsaic Lines (New 'n' Tasty).
For the level in Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee, see Monsaic Lines (Abe's Oddysee).

The Monsaic Lines are the holy caves of the native Mudokons, and where they venture to meditate or seek guidance. Though they are a spiritual and sacred place, various security personnel from RuptureFarms 1029 still stands guard in certain areas of the caves since the factory is located not too far away.

Layout[]

The tropical climate and verdant valleys are ideal for the spiritual renewal of each Mudokon, either native or slave. This area is formed by large rocks which have lines and curves somewhat peculiar, possibly the reason why the temple has that name. It also features an extensive network of passages, lifts, wells, and bird portals connecting different parts of the area and the area itself with surrounding regions. Travel via wells is implemented via long tubes connecting them which can be seen in the background of many areas, the longest of which go all the way to Paramonia and Scrabania. This is another possible reason for the area's name. In some sections, there are the statues of ancient Mudokons, Paramites, and Scrabs. For natives, these last two are considered sacred creatures.

Abe's Oddysee/New 'n' Tasty[]

After escaping the outskirts of the Rupture Farms facility, Abe falls down a cliff, landing on his head. The Big Face appears and pronounces Abe as dead. In exchange for reviving him, Abe would travel to the sacred lands of Paramonia and Scrabania. Once Abe wakes up, he sees the entrace to the caves, and runs in. Inside, he learns the whistle codes of the Mudokon monks, how to possess bells, and the prophecy of Rupture Farms' destruction. Abe uses the wells to travel to Scrabania and Paramonia.

Abe's Oddysee[]

If Abe has completed the Scrabanian or Paramonian Temples, then Big Face allows Abe to teleport to his quarters, where he gifts Abe the respective hand scar. Once Abe has both scars, he immediately gains the power of the Shrykull, and leaves to shut down Rupture Farms. When Abe is capture by Molluck, Big Face tries to use the Storm Circle at the Monsaic Lines to save him. In the bad ending, the other Mudokons, angered by Abe's lack of care for his fellow slaves, allow him to fall in the meat grinder. In the good ending, the Storm Circle is activated by the slaves Abe rescued, and Molluck and his top Slig get electrocuted. Abe is then teleported to the Monsaic Sanctum.

New 'n' Tasty[]

Abe does not get his hand scars at the Monsaic Lines, instead getting them at the Temples. However, Abe does have to go to the Monsaic Temple to get the full power of Shrykull. In the bad ending, instead of seemingly random Mudokons denying the use of the Storm Circle, it's instead a council made of a representative from Paramonia, Scrabania, and the Monsaic Lines.

Abe's Exoddus[]

The Monsaic Lines is only briefly shown during the game's intro. Almost immediately after the good ending of Abe's Oddysee, Big Face accidentally knocks Abe off the stage he was standing on, causing Abe to get knocked out, which the Three Weirdos use as an opportunity to contact him to tell him to go to Necrum.

Soulstorm[]

After the celebration at the Monsaic Sanctum, some of the Mudokons make themselves at home in a grotto near the Sanctum, partying with the Soulstorm Brew Alf stole. Abe is having a conversation with a masked shaman, who is trying to convince him to cut off his stiches. Unbeknownst to the Mudokons, Sligs from Necrum Mines have found this sacred cave. In the ensuing panic, the caves start to burn as the spilt Brew is set alight. Abe and his followers are forced to flee. It's unknown how the raid on the Monsaic Sanctum has affected the rest of the Monsaic Lines.

Notes[]

  • The area is similar to the Necrum Burial Grounds, as both are a religious place for spiritual Mudokons to visit.
  • On one of the flags is a Shekiah symbol, from the Legend of Zelda series.
  • Outside the Monsaic Lines are the ruins of a Mudokon settlement, indicating that Mudokon society settled around the sacred caves.
